Stories

Well, I guess it’s time to write my first blog post and to be honest, I’m not exactly sure what that all entails. I’ve never written a blog post before nor have I ever been quite open about myself. So from me to you, I’d like to apologize up front about the start of this relationship that you and I are beginning to mold as it may be slightly awkward.

Don’t be mistaken, I don’t plan on this being a one-way relationship either where I write some words down, you read them, and that’s that. I’m human as much as you and believe it or not, I do enjoy talking and meeting people even though I’m an introvert. I find people, including you, to be fascinating and thoroughly enjoy listening to people’s stories. That’s why we’re both here right? For the stories. And so, if you’re brave enough to read through the rest of this blog post, you’ll find a request for a favor at the end. If you have gotten this far and are considering turning back then fret not, go on your own accord and I hope you have a lovely day.

Now let’s get into it. Ever since I was a child, I have found stories fascinating whether it’s stories from my parents, movies, video games, history or my own imagination, I have always loved the idea of an “outside world” that’s limitless only to our thoughts. Stories allow us to free our mind and to take the position of someone else’s challenges. We get to see first hand the trials and tribulations that they are going through, how they deal with them, and if they conquer them or not. For a short moment, we become part of the story. We become part of the character. Overall, we can be anything. To me, that’s the most powerful thing in the world.

A few years ago, I heard a quote and I apologize for not remembering who said it but it went something like this: people only talk to each other because they want something from the person they’re talking to. I believe this to be true. Think about it. In a basic sense if I’m talking to a friend even casually by asking them how their day is, I want to know if they’re okay because I care for them. If their day was bad then I’d follow up and ask why it was because I want to hear their story. If their day was good then I’d follow up and ask if anything exciting happened because I want to hear the good story. See the link?

Stories bring us together and tear us apart. They are the history of our relationships and the promises of our future.

I’m here to write these stories, the good and the bad. I’m here to give you my take on the world and in a way, to tell my own story. Remember how I said that I don’t want this to be a one-way relationship? Well, I’d like to hear your story too because we all have one worth listening to and if you don’t have someone to share your story with… well I’m right here waiting for you.

Up above, I said I’d call in a favor so here it is: tell me a story. Whether it’s own of your own or one that you’ve heard. Tell me what you like about it. Tell me what you hate about it. Tell me why you chose that story and why it sticks with you.

Thanks for listening.

It’s funny, but, I did start writing this comment with the intention of writing a story, and somehow, I kinda wrote the story that took me years to put into words. I suppose this is kind of a story in itself. Either that, or you brought out the writer in me, who I had pushed aside. Anyway, welcome! It’s great to have you on board and I look forward to reading your stories soon!
